Board and commission vacancies offer opportunities to serve

Vacancies on city boards, commissions and committees offer Bellingham citizens opportunities to serve their community.  

There are currently vacancies on the boards, commissions and committees listed below. Candidates must be current residents of the State of Washington, and have been so for at least three (3) years; must presently live within Bellingham City limits and have done so for at least two (2) years; be a registered voter and a U.S. Citizen.  People interested in serving should pick up an application from the Mayor's Office at City Hall, 210 Lottie Street, second floor, or print one off of the City's website at: http://www.cob.org/government/public/boards-commissions/application-process.aspx

Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission - There is one (1) vacancy on the commission.  Meetings are held the last Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the Mayor's Board Room.

Board of Code Appeals - There are three (3) vacancies on the Board for 2-year terms for a general contractor, a lay member, and an alternate lay member.  Meetings are held when an appeal has been formally filed. 

Community Development Advisory Board - There are two (2) vacancies on the Board for the small business/ professional position and the WWU representative.  Meets the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Mayor's Boardroom, Second Floor, City Hall.

Commission Against Domestic Violence - There is one (1) vacancy on the Commission.  The Commission has monthly committee meetings, and quarterly retreats. 

Greenway Advisory Committee - There is one (1) vacancy on the Committee.  Meets the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the Fireplace Room in the Municipal Court building.

Mayor's Neighborhood Advisory Commission - There are two (2) vacancies on the Commission for representatives of the Central Business District and the Whatcom Falls neighborhood. If interested in applying, please contact your neighborhood association.  Meets the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the Mayor's Board Room, Second Floor, City Hall.

Sehome Hill Arboretum Board - There is one (1) vacancy on the Board. The Board meets the second Thursday every other month at 4:00 p.m. at the WWU Physical Plant.

Sister Cities Advisory Board - There is one (1) vacancy on the Board for three-year term.  The Board is looking for people with experience in Grant Writing, Program and Event Coordination, and/or an interest in Russia or Australia. Bellingham has four Sister Cities:  Tateyama, Japan; Port Stephens, Australia; Punta Arenas, Chile; and Nakhodka, Russia.  Meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the Mayor's Board Room, Second Floor, City Hall. 

Tourism Commission - There is one (1) vacancy on the Commission for a hotelier.  The Commission meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 3:00 p.m. in the Mount Baker Theater's Encore Room.
