Take Mom out on Mother's Day to enjoy the blooming azaleas and rhododendrons, enjoy refreshments, peruse the 36-piece sculpture collection, and mingle with artists, poets and even a Celtic harpist. From 1-4 p.m., Sunday, May 12, Big Rock Garden will host a 20th anniversary celebration, and everyone is invited.
Sponsored by the Bellingham Arts Commission, Friends of Big Rock Garden Park, and the Bellingham Parks and Recreation Department, the afternoon will be one to remember.
For the duration of the event, local plein air artists will be painting around the grounds, and paintings will be available for sale to benefit the park as well. From 1:20 p.m to 3:40 p.m., poets from the Whatcom Poetry Series will provide live readings. In addition, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., a Celtic harpist will play.
Big Rock Garden is located off of Sylvan Street, three blocks north of Alabama Street. Due to limited parking onsite, a free shuttle will be transporting guests from Bloedel Donovan Park to the Big Rock Garden Park.
