Bellingham arts commission announces professional training opportunity

Posted: March 12, 2007 7:45:17 AM PDT

The Bellingham Arts Commission is partnering with the Artist Trust, a not-for-profit organization that supports individual artists in Washington State, to offer the 2007 EDGE Professional Development Training Program to Bellingham artists at a very reasonable price.  In order to make this great opportunity a reality, any artists who reside in Bellingham are encouraged to apply.
"The EDGE Program is invaluable in understanding how to jump start an art career, and the contacts I made will be invaluable to me for years to come," said Shirley Erickson, Bellingham Arts Commissioner. "The Edge program provides essential business training and "best practices" for artists to attain sustainability in their professional development," explained Alexandra Wiley, Bellingham Arts Commissioner.  "By guiding artists in the nuts and bolts of running a small business, the Edge program lays the groundwork for success," Wiley added.

The EDGE Program provides artists with a comprehensive survey of professional practices through a hands-on, interactive curriculum that includes instruction by professionals in the field as well as specialized presentations, panel discussions, and assignments. The EDGE Program is open to emerging or mid-career visual artists.

Applicants must commit to completing the entire 50-hour program, to occur on Fridays and Saturdays from October through November.  The tuition is $150 for the entire program.
EDGE Applications and Guidelines are available on the Artist Trust website (, by sending a self-addressed, stamped, business-sized envelope to: EDGE Application, Artist Trust, 1835 12th Avenue, Seattle, WA 98122-2437.  Completed applications may be mailed must have a US Postal Service postmark dated on or before March 30, 2007.
