City photo competition seeks entries illustrating community values

Posted: March 25, 2011 12:08:39 PM PDT

Amateur and professional photographers of all ages are invited to participate in the "Essence of Bellingham" photo competition, the sixth annual opportunity for people to capture and share images of Bellingham life. The competition is sponsored by the City of Bellingham and the Whatcom Museum.

Winners receive special recognition by Bellingham Mayor Dan Pike and the Bellingham City Council, and have their work on public display, featured on BTV10 and the City’s website, and added to the Museum's photo archives.

Entries may be submitted online, by mail or in person. The deadline for entries is May 2, 2011.

"Each year we invite area photographers to share what they believe captures the 'essence' of Bellingham," said Bellingham Mayor Dan Pike. "This is a chance to show people what you think makes Bellingham such an amazing place."

Pike said this year’s competition will focus in particular on images that illustrate the City’s Legacies and Strategic Commitments, which are long-term goals adopted by the Bellingham City Council.

“The Legacies and Strategic Commitments describe our residents’ most important values,” Pike said. “We’re looking forward to seeing how area photographers illustrate these values through images of the people and places in our community.”

Complete competition details and an online entry form are available at on the City website.
