Winter Storm Warning for the Mountains

Winter Storm Warning for the Mountains

Urgent - Winter Weather Message
National Weather Service Seattle Wa
440 am pst sat dec 27 2008

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for the west slopes of the north and central Cascades until 6 am pst Sunday...

Snow continued to fall across the area...mainly above the 3000 foot level. Below this level...a wintry mix or freezing rain was occurring. In fact...freezing rain was falling at Snoqualmie pass early this morning. Those traveling on I-90 should be alert for ice on the highway in places.

The snow level will lower back down to near 2500 feet this afternoon...thus expect the rain at Snoqualmie pass to change back over to snow. Below the 2000 foot level...the precipitation will fall entirely as rain.

Another 8 to 14 inches of snow is likely today above the 3000 foot level...with an additional 5 to 10 inches likely above the 2000 foot level by late tonight. The snow will also be accompanied by gusty winds across the exposed ridges through tonight...resulting in some blowing or drifting snow at times.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Those planning travel in the warned area should be prepared for hazardous...winter driving conditions.

For the latest road conditions...call 511 or 800-695-road...or visit the Washington State Department of Transportation web site At www.wsdot.wa.gov.
