Flood insurance renewal due for policies purchased after 2006 floods

Camp Murray, Wash. – Group Flood Insurance Policies purchased with disaster assistance funds for about 200 survivors of the fall 2006 floods must be renewed by next month to allow the individuals to qualify for further federal disaster aid, state emergency management officials say.

The National Flood Insurance Program has notified the state that policies purchased for survivors of the November 2006 floods will expire Feb. 10,according to the Emergency Management Division of the Washington Military Department.

By law, policy recipients must keep flood insurance in force with coverage of at least $29,900 in order to qualify for further federal disaster assistance such as
payments for underinsured real and personal property losses. The coverage must be purchased and maintained as long as (1) you live in or own the home that was flooded; or (2) you are a renter and live in the same rental unit where you previously received disaster assistance through the Individuals and Household Program.

To purchase a Standard Flood Insurance Policy or find out more information about the National Flood Insurance Program, contact your local insurance agent or call toll-free (800) 638-6620.
