Heavy snow expected in the mountains through Thursday...

A series of strong pacific frontal systems will impact western Washington later today through Friday morning. Heavy snow is expected over the Olympics late this afternoon into tonight and over the cascades tonight through Thursday.

...Winter storm warning in effect from 4 pm this afternoon to 4 pm pst Thursday...

The national weather service in Seattle has issued a winter storm warning for heavy snow across the cascades...which is in effect from 4 pm this afternoon to 4 pm pst Thursday. The winter storm Watch is no longer in effect.

Heavy snow is expected to develop across the west facing slopes of the north and central cascades this evening and continue through Thursday. Through this timeframe snowfall totals of 2 to 3 feet are expected over the north cascades and volcanoes with around 1 to 2 feet across the central cascades. Snow levels will be near 2500 feet
through tonight then rise to 3500 feet north and 4500 feet central Cascades Thursday. Temperatures in the passes will remain near or below freezing with southeast flow...leading to a wintry mix at Stevens and Snoqualmie pass.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A winter storm warning means significant amounts of snow...sleet...and ice are expected or occurring. Strong winds are Also possible. This will make travel very hazardous or impossible.Those planning travel across the cascades should be prepared for hazardous...winter driving conditions.
