Whatcom County Seeks Block Grant Project Proposals
The Whatcom County Executive is seeking proposals for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) General Purpose Grant Program Funding Cycle for the year 2010.
Up to $1 million may be available to the county on a statewide competitive basis to fund public facility, housing, economic development, or community facility projects that principally benefit low and moderate income persons. Whatcom County will serve as the lead agency and partner with a local non-profit, district or other local jurisdiction in the application process.
Project proposals should include a brief summary of the project, a draft budget including other funding sources; and specify the CDBG fund (General Purpose Grant or Planning Only Grant).
The following is the schedule for submissions:
October 21st, 2009, 5:00 p.m. – Deadline for all interested parties to submit a summary of their proposed project, including the overall project description, reason for the application, and amount of funds you are requesting to the County Executive’s office, Suite 108, 311 Grand Avenue, Bellingham, WA 98225.
November 10, 2009 – Public Hearing Notice published for County Council Meeting to choose the CDBG project and appoint an administrative official.
November 24, 2009 – Public Hearing to consider applications for funding from the State’s Community Development Block Grant program for 2010. The County Council will hear presentations and take testimony on proposed projects. The hearing will take place in the Council Chambers, 1st Floor, 311 Grand Avenue, Bellingham, WA. After the public hearing, the Council will decide which, if any, project to sponsor as a CDBG application to the Washington State Department of Commerce.
January 12, 2010 – County Executive signs application packet approving submittal to Washington State Department of Commerce.
January 21, 2010 – Application packet due to WSDOC.
