Planned Service Outage for the Lummi Island Ferry



Whatcom County Public Works would like to inform the public that mandatory repairs to the Lummi Island dock lifting mechanism is needed.  The project will require that the loading span be locked in a level position while replacement of cables,pulleys,and other gear takes places. Ferry operations must be suspended during the project work. All work is anticipated to take place during the night hours.

Accordingly beginning on Monday, October 5,2009 from 9:30pm to approximately 6:00am the following morning , the Whatcom Chief will not be in service. This planned service outage will be in effect beginning October 5,2009 (Monday) and will continue each night through October 9,2009 (Friday).
It is anticipated that the ferry will be back to it’s regular schedule at 7:00am on Saturday October 10,2009.

The 9:10pm run from Lummi Island and the 9:20pm run from Gooseberry Point will be the last runs each evening during the planned service outage. Due to the complex nature of these repairs there will not be an exceptions or additional runs after the posted last run times.

The Whatcom County Public Works Department would like to thank everyone in advance for their cooperation and patience during these mandatory repairs.
