Nighttime lane closures on I-5 in Bellingham

BELLINGHAM - Drivers who regularly use I-5 near Sunset Drive should prepare for nighttime lane closures next week so crews can install stormwater filter strips along the center median.

Crews will close the north- and southbound left lanes from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Friday nights, Sept. 8 through Sept. 11, near Sunset Drive (exit 255). Drivers can expect minor delays during the closures.

This work is part of a larger project to improve collection and treatment of stormwater runoff from I-5. Crews will install compost-amended vegetative filter strips along several stretches of I-5 to help collect any water that leaves the highway, treat and remove pollutants, then release cleaner water.
