Urban Growth Area (UGA) Open House

August 18, Whatcom County Executive Pete Kremen presented his recommendations for revising the county’s urban growth areas, moving the County closer to compliance with the Growth Management Act. As a follow-up to the proposal’s release, the County invites residents to a series of open houses to learn more about the proposal and ask questions of county staff.

 Aug. 31 – Ferndale WECU, 5659 Barrett Road (4:00-7:00)
Sept. 1 – Birch Bay Bible Community Church, 7039 Jackson Rd (4:00-7:00)
Sept. 3 – Lynden Community Center, 401 Grover St (4:00-7:00)
Sept. 17 – Whatcom County Courthouse Rotunda, 311 Grand Ave, Bellingham (3:00-6:00)

County planners will be on hand to explain how the proposal affects each UGA and answer any questions about the proposal. No formal presentation is planned to allow plenty of time for questions. Residents are invited to show up any time during the open house. The proposal and all available supporting materials are now available online at: http://www.whatcomcounty.us/pds/2031/uga.jsp, or at the offices of Whatcom County Planning and Development Services, 5280 Northwest Drive, Bellingham.
 
The public will have an opportunity to provide input on the proposal at a joint hearing of the Planning Commission and the County Council on Sept. 17 at 6:00 pm in the council chambers.
