State Highway Construction Update

*Southbound I-5 on-ramp at Sunset Drive to close Sunday morning*

We'll need to briefly close the southbound I-5 on-ramp at Sunset Drive for four hours Sunday morning so crews can clear some brush in that central island area. The ramp will close from 4 to 8 a.m. Sunday, April 5. If you need to access southbound I-5, we'll detour you south on James Street to the southbound on-ramp at Ohio Street.

*Weather delays SR 539 road closures
*We just can't seem to get a break from the cold, wet spring weather. Our crews working to widen the Guide (SR 539) have had to delay the closure of Ten Mile Road again. It was scheduled to close Monday, March 30, so we could complete work on the roundabout. Instead, we've pushed that closure back to Monday, April 13.

The good news this week is that we've completed our work at Beard Road and reopened that intersection to traffic. We've also been getting some paving done north of Ten Mile Road. We're keeping our fingers crossed for good weather in the coming weeks so we can finish up the Ten Mile roundabout and finish up paving near Axton Road.

*Check out photos from North Cascades Highway*

Crews began work Monday to clear snow from 37 miles of the North Cascades Highway that closed December 11. Temperatures were in the mid 20s and snow was falling on Wednesday, April 1, when we got these photos of the snowblowers and plow trucks [ http://www.flickr.com/photos/wsdot/sets/72157615892803779/ ] at work.

Two snowblowers and a plow truck were working to clear snow off the highway. On the west side, we've reached the Easy Pass trailhead, near mile marker 151.5. (To find out where that is, exactly, check out the map [ http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Traffic/Passes/NorthCascades/map.htm ] on our North Cascades page). The snow walls were approximately 5 feet tall along the highway.
