Heavy snow for the cascades and lowland snow possible for this Weekend...

A strong cold front will pass through western Washington on Saturday bringing cool...wet and unstable conditions to the region. Westerly winds will increase aloft with showers focusing Along the western slopes of the north and central cascades. Colderair will begin to filter in Saturday afternoon...bringing an increased chance of lowland snow throughout the weekend.

Western Whatcom County-east Puget Sound lowlands-Western Skagit county-western strait of Juan de fuca-north coast-

Winter weather advisory in effect from 10 am pst Saturday to 5 am pdt Sunday...

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a winter Weather Advisory for snowfall...which is in effect from 10 am pst Saturday to 5 am pdt Sunday.

A strong front will cross the area Saturday morning. A cold and unstable air mass will remain overhead through the weekend. Rain andsnow showers will turn to all snow as colder air filters in during the day on Saturday.

Highest totals for the Strait of Juan de Fuca and the northern Washington coast will occur away from the water and on elevated terrain. Snowfall totals of 2 to 5 inches are expected by Sunday morning.

The highest totals for western Whatcom and western Skagit Counties...and the east Puget Sound lowlands...will occur nearestThe cascades. Total snowfall amounts of 2 to 5 inches are expected through Sunday morning. A Puget Sound convergence zone may lead to Locally heavy snowfall amounts for the east Puget Sound lowlands Saturday evening and night.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow...sleet...or Freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities...and use caution while driving.

Whatcom County Public Works will have a crew of eight with six trucks on duty beginning at Midnight Saturday night in anticipation of the snow. If needed more people
and eqipment will be added, crews could go to twelve hour shifts if required.Residents are reminded to drive with caution watch for ice and drifting snow.
