Whatcom County Flood Control Zone District
The Whatcom County Flood Control Zone District (WCFCZD), through the Whatcom County Department of Public Works, is soliciting applications from special districts and landowners interested in participating in the 2009 Repair and Maintenance Program.
Under this program, WCFCZD and the River and Flood Division of the Public Works Department will accept, review and prioritize applications, provide design and administrative services, apply for and secure permits, and supervise construction of qualifying projects. This process can take from several months to years depending on the complexity of the project and other WCFCZD priorities.
Eligible projects include projects to reconstruct, repair or stabilize flood control structures or components of the stream or river system that have been damaged during storm events.
Projects must provide a public benefit and are prioritized based on the following:
o Amount of damage to existing flood control structures and potential for further damage;
o Degree of criticalness and threat to existing residences, infrastructure, farmland and other improvements;
o Benefits received relative to project costs;
o Evidence of efforts at self-help by those directly benefiting from project
Qualifying projects are funded on a cost share basis with the Flood Control Zone District.
