UPDATE - SUSPECT ARRESTED AND REMANDED TO HARRIS COUNTY JAIL
Suspect Description: Two black males between the ages of 18–25 years old. The first male was approximately 5’8’’ tall with a dark complexion and a medium build, wearing a dark colored t-shirt and dark colored pants and a dark colored baseball cap. The second male was approximately 6’1” tall with a dark complexion and a thin build (unknown clothing description). Neither male had any facial hair.
Weapon: A silver in color medium frame (large caliber) semi-automatic style handgun.
Vehicle: A dark green in color four door early model vehicle (possibly an Oldsmobile Ninety Eight or an unknown model Chrysler).
Synopsis: At approximately 8:10pm on September 8, 2009 a UH student was robbed at gunpoint in the Cullen Oaks south residential parking lot. The student reported that as he walked to his parked vehicle, in the south end of the parking lot, he was approached from behind by two unidentified black males. The student stated that one of the males grabbed him by the neck and pointed a silver in color medium frame (large caliber) semi-automatic style handgun to the back of his head and demanded his personal property. The student advised that the suspects took his cellular phone and his wallet containing his UH Cougar 1 card, a debit card, a credit card, a gas card and $30.00 dollars cash. The student advised that after the male took his property, he pushed him to the ground and then entered into the parked and running vehicle and left the area. The student was not injured in the incident.
This case is being actively investigated by UHDPS.
SAFETY TIPS:
Confrontations can occur without provocation, through no fault of your own. When such confrontations do occur, there are some actions you can take:
- BE ALERT!!
- Be cautious when approached by an unknown person on the street, even the nicest person can have ill intent.
- Remain as calm as possible.Your own initiative and clear thinking are your best defenses.
- The University has more than 70 Emergency call boxes placed strategically around campus, use them! The call goes directly to the UHDPS Dispatch Center.
- Report the incident. Call the police immediately and report what has happened. Call (713) 743-3333 or 911.
- Do not walk alone, if at all possible walk in groups.
- Try to notice details. This can allow you to provide the police with detailed physical and clothing descriptions of the person(s) involved.
- If a vehicle is involved, try to note the vehicle's license plate number or the vehicle's manufacturer, model and color or any other identifying features.
