UPDATE - ONE SUSPECT ARRESTED AND SECOND SUSPECT SUSPECT TURNED HIMSELF IN TO AUTHORITIES ON OCTOBER 19, 2009
On Monday, July 27, 2009 one of the suspects was identified and charged with Aggravated Robbery in this incident. This individual was remanded to the custody of the Harris County Jail. After an intensive investigation the second suspect was identified on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 and a warrant for Aggravated Robbery was procured for his arrest. UHDPS has gained intelligence that this suspect has fled the state.
SUSPECTS:
Black male, approximately 20 – 25 years old, 5’8”, 180 lbs stocky, shaved head with stubble, brown eyes, medium-dark complexion, an unknown design 4” tattoo on the upper right arm, capped teeth, unknown if silver or gold. Suspect #1 was wearing a black shirt that said “Wife beater” on it. This suspect displayed the firearm.
Black male, approximately 20 – 25 years old, 5’10”, weight only described as skinny, black hair, brown eyes, and a medium complexion. No clothing description is available for suspect #2..
WEAPON: Small framed semi-automatic pistol.
VEHICLE: None used, suspects were on foot.
SYNOPSIS:
On Sunday, July 26, 2009 at approximately 4:21 p.m. a UH student, reported that the two suspects approached her truck, a 2003 white Toyota Tundra extended cab with 3 stickers including a white UH sticker. Suspect #1 exhibited a gun and took the complainant’s purse and truck keys. The suspects entered the truck and fled the scene driving east towards the complex’s exit. No physical force was used and the complainant was not injured. This incident is being actively investigated by the University of Houston Department of Public Safety (UHDPS). Confrontations can occur without provocation, through no fault of your own. When such confrontations do occur, there are some actions you can take:
- BE ALERT!!
- Be cautious when approached by an unknown person on the street, even the nicest person can have ill intent.
- Remain as calm as possible.Your own initiative and clear thinking are your best defenses.
- The University has more than 70 Emergency call boxes placed strategically around campus, use them! The call goes directly to the UHDPS Dispatch Center.
- Report the incident. Call the police immediately and report what has happened. Call (713) 743-3333 or 911.
- Do not walk alone, if at all possible walk in groups.
- Try to notice details. This can allow you to provide the police with detailed physical and clothing descriptions of the person(s) involved.
- If a vehicle is involved, try to note the vehicle's license plate number or the vehicle's manufacturer, model and color or any other identifying features.
