METRO IS CONNECTING COMMUNITIES

The first work order has been issued. The expansion of METRO’s light-rail system is officially underway. It will be a challenging journey, but in the end, METRO will be Connecting Communities like never before.

The agency’s newest documentary highlighting this significant event – Connecting Communities - airs tonight at 6 p.m. on Comcast’s HCCTV Channel 19.

The program chronicles the historic groundbreaking ceremonies that took place on July 13, 2009 to celebrate the launch of METRO’s next two light-rail lines – the North and Southeast corridors.  Members of METRO’s Board of Directors were joined by elected officials, and Houston residents and business owners at Union Station at Minute Maid Park. It was here that a life-size model of METRO’s new train was unveiled in a shower of confetti.

During the festive events, METRO also announced it was ramping up construction on the East End line.  The three lines will add about 14 miles of light rail to its existing Main Street Red Line.

If you missed last week’s groundbreaking celebrations, be sure to tune into Connecting Communities tonight and experience the day’s momentous events.  The show will air Monday through Friday, July 20 – July 24. The documentary will also be posted on METRO’s Web site at www.ridemetro.org.
