During 2008, more than 10,000 HISD students participated in and completed the METRO Solutions Community School Safety Education Program! Students along the North, East End, and Southeast alignments engaged in innovative and exciting learning experiences. METRO is continuing the highly successful Community School Safety Education Program for the 2009 - 2010 school year. Over a three-week period, kindergarten through twelfth grade students visit the METRO Solutions School Safety classroom to participate in bilingual lessons on train awareness, construction and rail safety. Once complete, students, teachers, parents, and local community members gather to celebrate each school's conclusion of the program. Each student also receives a commemorative Certificate of Completion! The instructional strategies meet the needs of Houston's diverse population, and the learning objectives are aligned to the state-mandated TEKS and TAKS. Age-appropriate and interactive lessons integrate academic subject areas such as science, math, language arts, social studies, health, music and movement.
