MEMORIAL SERVICE TO HONOR COAST GUARDSMAN KILLED IN IRAQ 

 

 

SEATTLE – A memorial service for the first Coast Guardsman killed while serving in Iraq will be held Friday at 5 p.m. in the Neah Bay, Wash., High School gymnasium.

 

Coast Guard Petty Officer 3rd Class Nathan Bruckenthal served at Station Neah Bay from spring 2001 to summer 2003.  He was killed in the Persian Gulf  during a suicide bombing attack on an Iraqi oil terminal.  He is the son of Ric Bruckenthal of Northport, N.Y., and Laurie Bullock of Ashburn, Va.

 

The Bruckenthal Memorial Fund is being established for the family by the Morale, Welfare and Recreation office at Coast Guard Integrated Support Command Miami.  People wishing to donate money to the Bruckenthal family may send checks or money orders payable to the "COAST GUARD MORALE FUND".  They are also collecting baby items and notes of condolences.

All proceeds will be presented to his widow and family at a date to be determined by the Command.

 

One print and one television representative, under a pool agreement, will be allowed to attend the ceremony.  Coast Guard video and photos will be available upon request for those unable to attend.  Please contact the 13th District Public Affairs Office at 206-220-7237 for pooling arrangements.
